Top Five Fashion Trends For Fall
Ladies, it's that time again! The cool weather is finally gracing us with it's presence, Pumpkin spice lattes are back, and the holiday's are just around the corner. As crucial as it is to get a jump start on the Christmas shopping, you need to treat yourself too! We are here to help you get your Fall closet in order and right on trend!
Just because the temperature is dropping doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on a whole new wardrobe. A few key pieces will spice up your closet and have you covered in the fashion department well through the cooler time of year. The best part? We've done all the work for you! We've searched the many trends to come out this Fall and found five essential pieces that every woman should own. So, are you ready to freshen up that closet ladies? We thought so!
Starting out our list at Number 5 is zippers!
Zippers seem to be popping up everywhere this season! From asymmetrical front zips to all the way down zip back cute trendy dresses, they're as common as candy corn and pumpkins this Fall. Since they're so popular, there are many ways to incorporate this trend into your existing wardrobe. Jackets are an easy, no brainer way to try it out. If you're feeling a little more daring, we LOVE front zipped skirts, like our "Keep it Zipped Skirt" in black. It's fun enough to take you from a business meeting to a night out on the town with your girlfriends. Super versatile, this piece can be paired with tees, tanks, long sleeved henley's and, if you're up for it, play with texture by adding a colorful blousy top. You can even layer this skirt over tights for a more conservative look (or a warmer one!) It's all about balance this season, and this skirt is a way to try out a trend without getting overwhelmed!
We do say this with a disclaimer however: it's easy to go overboard. Don't wear a front zip skirt and a jacket together, and if you do decide on a full back zip dress (have you SEEN our new "View From the Top Dress"?! It's to die for ladies!), make sure the hem is a little longer than normal. We don't want anyone getting the wrong idea now do we?
Coming in at Number 4, we have tweed.
Tweed is a classic. It's like black and white, oversized purses and pearls - it will NEVER go out of style! Tweed jackets are hot this season, lending a little brainy professor vibe to our wardrobes.
Down here in sunny Florida, we don't need jackets all that often, so I propose we incorporate tweed a little differently into our closets this season. Our "A Cut Above" skirt lends the tweed feel without making us break a sweat. The pencil skirt style is perfect for Fall in so many ways; the gorgeous maroon color makes us long for changing leaves, the longer hem makes it easy to layer over tights when it does get cooler outside and the tweed, nearly hounds-tooth style makes it very on trend! We're in love! Try it with a basic white tee for a casual look, or dress this beauty up with our "Not Your Mama's Pearls" top and some wine colored booties! You'll get an "A" in fashion!
Third place is taken by pops of color!
Sure, the fall staples of black and white, wine and darker, color of the leaves hues are not going anywhere. However, we're seeing a lot of brights mixed in this season. Coral, mint and some other seemingly Summer hues are working their way into the Fall season. Down here in Florida, we love that! There's no need to push all those summer favs to the back of the closet ladies! It's still ok to rock that colored maxi dress, and floral print top! Heck, we are on the side with those who think the "no white after Labor Day" is outdated and unnecessary down here! We celebrate keeping our colorful wardrobes intact all year long! Coming in as our second place runner up, we have animal print!
We're happy to report that the beloved animal print is here to stay ladies! It's quickly gone the way of Chevron - a permanent fixture on the fashion skyline. We always have to say this with a warning... it's easy to go overboard with this trend. It comes in so many forms... tops, dresses, scarves, shoes.. it's easy to get overwhelmed! Our advice here at The Pink Nickel is something that Emily Post would agree with... less is more! While we can't get enough of the print, from leopard spots to jaguar print and tiger stripes, we say with caution - PICK ONE!
We love a pop of animal print with dark skinny jeans and a solid top. It's an easy way to try the trend without falling victim to being mistaken AS an animal. Shoes are a great place to start. There are wedges, flats, even some sneakers we've seen that feature the beloved print. For those a little more flexible, we are in LOVE with our "Leopard Jeggings" as bottoms! They're thick enough to keep you warm through weather changes, and actually keep you covered, but they're light enough to not be bulky underneath all of our favorite tunics. We also are smitten with our "Don't Change Your Spots" jacket. This light layering piece is PERFECT for Fall. It's not too heavy and pairs perfectly with dark denim (we are bias toward our "After Dark" jeans by Angry Rabbit. Can you say comfortable?).
Any way you slice it, animal print is here to stay. So make sure you add some to your wardrobe, in whatever form you like, this Fall.

Our number one trend to try out this season is... LEATHER!
It's no shock to our fashionista friends that leather is a key to a great Fall wardrobe. We can't get enough... jackets, pants, tees, skirts, vests.. the list goes on and on! Leather is an easy way to add depth to your closet, and one or two pieces will last you all season. We love the concept of mixing materials, like our "A Chip on Your Shoulder" tee. It's a standard, wear everywhere tee with faux leather short sleeves! Talk about versatile! It looks great with jeans, and gives a little edge to skirts and business wear. Add a statement necklace and you're all set! Another trend we're loving is the leather vest. Our "Ready for Initiation" vest is the PERFECT layering accessory this season. Wear it over colorful long sleeved henley's to add texture, and try it with our favorite resort style pants by Flying Tomato (the "Tropical Paradise" are our favorite pair) to turn a very summer piece into a Fall must have!
